Paxos Music Festival produced by the Friends of Paxos is resuming this summer after two years of restrictions and lockdowns due to COVID 19.
This is the 36th edition of the music festival founded in 1986 by John Gough and which has, summer after summer, brought to Paxos classical and contemporary musicians of international renown.
This year we offer a rich variety of events and artists from many different countries and backgrounds. Young, upcoming musicians mix on stage with older and established ones to creatively blend their culture and talents to our delight. ‘East meets West’ during our art exhibitions and we propose an introduction to rebetika music through a wonderful book for children but maybe not just for children.
Thursday 23 June: The Songs of Jackie Leven with Jinder, Michael Weston King, Deborah Greenwood & special Paxos guests.
Tuesday 28 June: Presentation of the book “A journey to Rebetiko” by Gail Holst – Warhaft and Zoe Dionysiou (Fagotto Publications).
Friday 8 July: Irish Wings: Muldoon’s Picnic on Paxos – Hosted by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and songwriter Paul Muldoon.
Wednesday 20 July: Greek – Austrian Music, “Komm, liebe Zither, komm.”
Thursday 21 July: Exhibition Opening: Nikola Sarić, Images of Revelation (until 14 Aug.)
Wednesday 10 August: Pendaichon – Traditional Greek Mainland Music.
Thursday 18 August: Exhibition Opening: Catalan & Greek Ceramics: East meets West (until 15 Sep.).
Sunday 21 August: Classical Guitar Delight – Michalis Kondaxakis & Konstantinos Avlonitis.
Thursday 25 August: The Return of Papadopoulos Trio (violin, cello & piano concert).
Sunday 28 August: Solo Violin Concerto by Marie Claudine Papadopoulos.
Saturday 10 September: Sirius Piano Trio with Simos Papanas (violin), Vasilis Saitis (cello), Martyna Jatkauskaite (piano).
Tuesday 13 September: Heartfelt Music from Greece and Turkey for Violin and Piano by Nikos Mandilas (violin) & Popy Malapani (piano).
Friday 16 September: British Soundscapes with Michael Lafferty (baritone), Hannah Boxall (soprano), Ashley Beauchamp (pianist).
The dates for lectures on Modern Greek Art and contemporary Catalan ceramics as well as some Paxos walks will be announced in the course of the season.
