Paul Cutliffe is playing the uilleann pipes, clarinet and whistle for Irish Wings. He fell in love with the pipes and saxophone after university, where he was awarded a first class honours degree in classical music through clarinet and piano. Paul plays in many bands and collaborations all over Ireland and is as comfortable being DJ support for the Ibiza Orchestra as he is playing with K-KLASS, Jazz at the City of Derry Jazz Festival, Classical with a regional orchestra or Folk-Fusion with the ten-piece fusion band, BASORK. Paul has also composed Irish music for theatre, including for an original production, ‘Across the Waves’, which celebrated the great Irish Saint, Columba whose abbey on the island of Iona linked Ireland and Scotland and beyond. Recently Paul collaborated with Martin Coyle of HELLAS ENSEMBLE and Rajasthani musicians to compose original music exploring and marrying the traditions of Ireland and Rajasthan. He joined them in performing it at the Rajasthan International Folk Festival in 2019 and 2022.
