Amanda Koser, is a multi-talented musician who is not only a performer, but a band director, conductor and music educator. Her main instruments are flute, trombone, euphonium, alto saxophone, and tuba, and she has played as Principal Chair Tuba for the Trujillo Symphony Orchestra in Peru during the International Bach Festival and with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra of North Carolina. As an ethnomusicologist with an interest in fusion music she also plays the Andean panpipes and the traditional Andean flute. Living in Derry/Londonderry in the North of Ireland she is passionate about what music can do to bring people together; in her work for Musicians Without Borders and Derry’s Music Bridge programme she is able to share this passion for learning through music with a variety of communities in her adopted city, including in schools. Amanda is the founder and director of Second Line NI which brings New Orleans jazz street performance to these communities too, helping them to connect emotionally through music which is not associated with the usual stereotypes. She is a member of BASORK, a ten-piece fusion group whose compositions are influenced by Irish, European and Middle Eastern sounds. Brass, Strings and Woodwind combine with hints of jazz and funk and traditional music whose big melodies allow for improvisation.
