A trailblazer in the realm of Celtic music in Greece, Chrysoula Kechagioglou is not only a performer but a visionary, co-founding the illustrious Athens Celtic Festival and recording and performing with many Irish artists, including, for Irish Wings,Dónal Lunny, Andy Irvine, Horslips,Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and now Dónal O’Connor. She has performed with many Greek luminaries, including George Dalaras, Lina Nikolakopoulou and Nikos Xydakis and leads her own all-female band Chrysoula K & Púrpura, which aims to create a new sound, combining aspects of traditional and classical forms with compositions influenced by diverse musical cultures. With them she has recorded two albums: Chrysoula k. & Púrpura (Australia 2018) and Lost City (Athens 2022) Europe, Australia, USA, Egypt and Ireland.Chrysoula is also at the heart of two other compelling musical ensembles: the traditional Celtic music band “Iernis” and the traditional and rebetika music band, “ApodimiCompania”, both of which have appeared on Paxos for Irish Wings.
