Nikos Zafranas, pianist was born in Thessaloniki. He received his piano diploma at the National Conservatory of Athens in the class of Domna Evnouhidou. He continued his studies on a scholarship in the University of Illinois, USA next to Ian Hobson and at the Music University of Graz, Austria under W. Kamper receiving his “Magister Artium” masters degree. He was distinguished in many competitions in Greece and abroad.
He has performed as a soloist in Greece, Albania, Austria, France, Germany, USA, Spain, Italy, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, G. Britain, S. Africa, Poland, Roumania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and Czech Republic. He has appeared as a soloist with the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, The Philharmonic Orchestra of Karlovy Vary, the National Symphonic Orchestra of NERIT, the “Dimitris Mitropoulos” orchestra and with many others.
He is a founding member of Piandaemonium (6 pianos – 12 pianists) and of the Transcription Ensemble. He has recorded solo piano works, chamber music peaces for television and radio shows and Cds. He worked as korrepetitor in numerous opera productions for the Styriarte (Austria), the Thessaloniki Megaron of Music, the Thessaloniki Opera with very important artists, like Agni Baltsa, Renata Scotto, Nikos Spanos, Elena Mosuc and for Internationale Musiktage in Bad Leonfelden, Austria, RAMT in Slovenia and many others.
He is lecturer at the Educational Department of the Brunel University of London and professor of Music Education at the Department of Music Studies of the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki.
