Thodoris Matoulas is a harp soloist, an orchestra and chamber music performer and pedagogue with a long and rich career in the Greek music scene. He studied harp at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki next to professor, Maria Bildea. He is member of the Contemporary Music Orchestra of the Greek National Radio and Television (ERT) since 1994 and an associate of the National Symphonic Orchestra of ERT. He has also cooperated with the State Thessaloniki Orchestra, the State Athens Orchestra, the National Opera Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, the Orchestra of Colors, the Camerata – Orchestra of Friends of Music. He has worked with numerous Greek and foreign artists, among which with Theodoros Antoniou, Ouranis Gasiou, Vasilis Agrokostas, Chronis Aidonidis, Nicola Piovani and he has performed in numerous venues in Greece and abroad, participating also in Festivals like the Athens Festival, the Patmos one and many others.
One of his special artistic achievements is the composition of songs and dances based on traditional themes from various Greek areas, with the harp as the main instrument. He has also transcribed many folk songs for a chamber music ensemble (duo or quartet) with or without a singer, which have been recorded and performed for the Greek Radio (Studio C) and the National Television (‘Greek Acts’ show). Thodoris Matoulas is a harp teacher at the historic Athens Conservatory and also teaches at the Atheneum Conservatory.
