Cine-opera pastiche
A co-production with the Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris)

The Greek National Opera presents a new multimedia spectacle that brings opera and cinema into dialogue, starting July 22 in Paxos.

The cinematic opera pastiche titled À Paris tous les deux is an invitation to discover the art of opera and a tribute to popular operas set in Paris. Five stories of love and death from *La Traviata*, *La Bohème*, *Manon*, *Louise*, and *Mandy* come together to form a silent, anthology-style film, which is always presented with live musical accompaniment.

Excerpts from the operas of Verdi, Puccini, Massenet, Charpentier, and Offenbach are performed by sopranos Chrysa Maliamani and Anna Stylianaki and tenor Manos Kokkonis, with Christos Sakellaridis at the piano.

Drawing inspiration from pastitsio—an artistic expression found in music as early as the 18th century that refers to the creation of a new musical work by combining excerpts from different works by one or more composers — Vasilis Louras creates a new work consisting of stories of love and death set in Paris. Through the cinematic medium, the stories are brought to life on the big screen in a striking way, with a faithful libretto, Greek subtitles, and stunning footage shot on location in Paris, while the arias and duets are performed live, creating a unique experience that appeals to both opera lovers and those discovering it for the first time.

The film, directed by Michalis Asthenidis and Vasilis Louras and produced by Stella Angeletou, features, among others, the renowned French actress Fanny Ardant in a surprise role.

À Paris tous les deux is presented with free admission as part of the “The Greek National Opera Tours Greece” program, which is implemented with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to strengthen the artistic outreach of the Greek National Opera.
