Paxos Festival

Festival 2023 intro

2023 Festival has arrived late June this season but it is here finally and it’s promising wonderful moments of culture within the hospitable garden of the Old School House in the picturesque seaside village of Loggos.

The 37th Paxos Festival offers a variety of music and art events, inviting on stage young upcoming artists, combined with renowned professionals from all over Europe, in an ever -lasting dialogue between people of different cultures and origins.

“Austrian –Greek Music Summer Events” guitar recital by Florian Palier launches this season’s events.

The Irish Wings 2023 evening of Poetry and Music features Hellas Ensemble, a group of Irish and Greek musicians and our own bouzouki virtuoso, Elias Dendias on a stage appointment full of originally created music pieces and the wonderful poetry of Irish, Nobel winner, poet Seamus Heaney, dedicated to Greece, read on stage by his daughter Catherine and in its Greek translation by Pepi Lychnou.

On July 23rd Paxiot ballet dancer and choreographer, Danae Vellianiti steps on our stage for the first time along with Evangelia Papaefthymiou and Eleftheria Theodorakopoulou and quite a few of her dance students to introduce us to her wonderful new choreographies.

Kadinelia, the upcoming World Acoustic Duo of Thanasis Zikas and Evi Seitanidou are expected to impress us with their own interpretation of traditional rhythms.

In August renowned guitar soloist, Michalis Kontaxakis returns on our stage for yet another breathtaking performance of Greek and Latin composers’ works. A few days later we will hear originally performed, old songs of Lefkimmi, a village of the south of Corfu Island in the School Yard, while inside the School hall the group painting and photo exhibition “Living Monuments” will feature Greek, Italian and British artists works inspired by Paxos olive groves. On July 23rd renowned violinist Jason Keramidis will join forces with pianist, Apostolos Palios to mesmerize us with their performance of well known French sonatas.

Last but not least in this season’s series of cultural events is our lecture – concert on the 13th of September. Gail Holst-Warhaft, journalist, broadcaster, prose-writer, academic, musician and translator, pianist in Mikis Theodorakis’ band in the ‘70s and his close personal friend, writer of many books on his work, will talk to us about his unique composition talent at the early stages of his career, while the Athens String Quartet will perform some of his emblematic chamber music creations.

We hope our 2023 Paxos Festival program is appealing to you and that we will see you in one of our events again this summer.

Have a lovely summer 2023!
