Stefanos Andreadis – “Flying Jazz”

Stefanos Andreadis, guitarist, composer and professor at the Ionian University Music Department in his first ever appearance on Paxos will present his recent album “To Eternity” by Ankh Productions. With his group, “Flying Jazz” consisted of elite members of the Greek Jazz Scene, Stefanos Andreadis promises great high level jazz moments to his audience.

Stefanos Andreadis

Stefanos Andreadis was born in Athens in 1967. He studied guitar, improvisation and byzantine music. He received his Master of Musical Arts from Nottingham University (UK) in 2002 and his Doctor of Musical Arts in 2005.

He has cooperated with many distinguished musicians as a jazz composer and guitarist in numerous concerts, international festivals, recordings for both Radio and Tv shows. His own works have been performed in Greece, England, Bulgaria by famous Chamber Music Ensembles. He is member of the Greek Composers Union since 2005 and official member of Yamaha Artists since 2010. In October 2010 he acted as General Secretary in the Global Jazz and Improvisation Conference in cooperation with the Ionian University and the World Union Of Jazz Schools.

He teaches jazz guitar since 1990, improvisation and high level music theory in the Piraeus Conservatory, the Koridalos Municipality Conservatory and the Filippos Nakas Conservatory. He is also a primary school teacher since 1996. Since 2007 he is also a professor at the Music Department of the Ionian University and Artistic Director of the Ionian Conservatory.

His recent album “Stefanos Andreadis – Flying Jazz” was released in March 2017 by FM records.

Giorgos Kontrafouris

Giorgos was born in Athens in 1967. He studied classical piano in the National Conservatory. At the age of 16 he turned his attention to jazz and attended jazz improvisation lessons with Markos Alexiou. He later attended lessons with Jim Beard and Jarmo Savolainen. He took his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jazz performance from the Sibelius Academy (Finland).

He has cooperated as pianist and organ player with some of the most significant musicians worldwide, like Mark Johnson, Arild Andersen, Marcus Stockhausen, Louisiana Red, Keith Copeland, Andy Sheppard, Ralph Peterson Jr, Bob Brozman, Carla Cook, Alvester Gamett, Stepko Gut, Olivier Gatto, David Liebman, Houston Pearson, Eric Alexander, David Sills, Lou Donaldson, Sam Newsome, Jamie Hadad, Deborah Davies, Beny Golson, Tim Hagans, Bob Shepard, Carmen Lundy, Sheila Jordan, Jukkis Uotila, Wade Mikkola Takis Paterelis, Stratos Vougas Dimos Dimitriadis, Lydia Fylipovic, T. Spasov, A. Pacatius.

He has taught jazz piano and organ at the Ionian University and at Athenaeum Conservatory in Greece, at the Sibelius Akademy in Finland. He has taught in seminars in numerous schools in Greece, Irland, Indonesia and Estonia.

Alexandros Ktistakis

Studied modern music and jazz performance in Athens and received his master’s degree in Music Performance with the Music Department of the Ionian University. He has participated in the World Jazz Conference organized by the Berklee College of Music. He has attended private lessons with Ron Savage, Ralph Peterson, Lee Pierson, Antonio Sanchez.

He has collaborated in jazz, latin-jazz, funk και fusion-Jazz with great drummers like  Anthony Jackson, Eric Marienthal, Bireli Lagrene, Tony Lakatos, Bob Francheschini, Brett Garsed, Mark Murphy, Frank Gambale, Mitchel Forman, Alex Foster, Dave Friedman, Bobby Few, Mike Miller, Abram Wilson, Miles Griffith, Greg Beily, Amik Guerra, Soweto Kinch, Denys Baptiste, Jason Yarde, Rex Richardson, Paul Clarvis, Tony Remy, Reiner Witzel, Igor Lumpert, Joel Soto, George Kontrafouris, Takis Paterelis, Vasilis Rakopoulos, Dimitris Vasilakis, Giorgos Fakanas, Antonis Andreou, Dimitris Tsakas, Kostas Baltazanis, Dimos Dimitriadis, Takis Barberis and others.

He has worked with some of the most established Greek artists of Modern Greek music and he has participated in many jazz recordings. He teaches in the Jazz Pathway of the Music Department of the Ionian University, he teaches drums and is the artistic director of Lab Music Education in Athens and Eraklion, Crete. He has also participated in numerous educational seminars of the Modern Music School International (Matthias Webel, Hans-Peter Becker).
